DURIANS MAY BE GOOD FRUIT, BUT THEY STILL REEK
by Pastor Mike Fortune
September 12, 2015

  1. Kingdom people grow naturally (Luke 6:43; Psalm 92:12-15; Isaiah 5:1-4; John 15:5)
  2. Kingdom people discern wisely (Luke 6:44: Galatians 5:22; 1 Corinthians 4:5)
  3. Kingdom people reflect Jesus (Luke 6:45; Proverbs 4:23; Proverbs 27:19)

Luke 6:43

43 A good tree can't produce bad fruit, and a bad tree can't produce good fruit.

Psalm 92:12-15

12 But the godly will flourish like palm trees and grow strong like the cedars of Lebanon. 13 For they are transplanted to the LORD's own house. They flourish in the courts of our God. 14 Even in old age they will still produce fruit; they will remain vital and green. 15 They will declare, "The LORD is just! He is my rock! There is no evil in him!"

Isaiah 5:1-4

1 Now I will sing for the one I love a song about his vineyard: My beloved had a vineyard on a rich and fertile hill. 2 He plowed the land, cleared its stones, and planted it with the best vines. In the middle he built a watchtower and carved a winepress in the nearby rocks. Then he waited for a harvest of sweet grapes, but the grapes that grew were bitter. 3 Now, you people of Jerusalem and Judah, you judge between me and my vineyard. 4 What more could I have done for my vineyard that I have not already done? When I expected sweet grapes, why did my vineyard give me bitter grapes?

John 15:5

5 "Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit.

Luke 6:44

44 A tree is identified by its fruit. Figs are never gathered from thornbushes, and grapes are not picked from bramble bushes.

Galatians 5:22

22 But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control.

1 Corinthians 4:5

5 So don't make judgments about anyone ahead of time—before the Lord returns. For he will bring our darkest secrets to light and will reveal our private motives. Then God will give to each one whatever praise is due.

Luke 6:45

45 A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart. What you say flows from what is in your heart.

Proverbs 4:23; 27:19 (Scripture Reading)

23 Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life. 19 As a face is reflected in water, so the heart reflects the real person.
