  1. Inspiring (John 15:11; 2 Chronicles 34; 2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:16-21)
  2. Reliable (Psalm 119:160; Isaiah 40:8; John 17:17)
  3. Worth studying (John 5:39; Luke 24:44; 1 Thessalonians 5:21)

Voltaire (18th century French Bible skeptic). "If we would destroy the Christian religion, we must first of all destroy man's belief in the Bible." Why would he say such a thing? Maybe because he knew Christ followers believed the Holy Scriptures are inspiring, reliable, and worth studying.

John 15:11

11 “These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full.

2 Chronicles 34:1-2

1 Josiah was eight years old when he became king, and he reigned thirty-one years in Jerusalem. 2 And he did what was right in the sight of the Lord, and walked in the ways of his father David; he did not turn aside to the right hand or to the left.

2 Chronicles 34:3

3 For in the eighth year of his reign, while he was still young [16 years old], he began to seek the God of his father David; and in the twelfth year he began to purge Judah and Jerusalem of the high places, the wooden images, the carved images, and the molded images.

2 Chronicles 34:8

8 In the eighteenth year of his reign [when he was 24 years old in 609 BC], when he had purged the land and the temple, he sent Shaphan the son of Azaliah, Maaseiah the governor of the city, and Joah the son of Joahaz the recorder, to repair the house of the Lord his God.

2 Chronicles 34:14

14 Now when they brought out the money that was brought into the house of the Lord, Hilkiah the priest found the Book of the Law of the Lord given by Moses.

2 Chronicles 34:18-19,21

18 Then Shaphan the scribe told the king, saying, “Hilkiah the priest has given me a book.” And Shaphan read it before the king. 19 Thus it happened, when the king heard the words of the Law, that he tore his clothes...because our fathers have not kept the word of the Lord, to do according to all that is written in this book.

2 Chronicles 34:29-30

29 Then the king sent and gathered all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem. 30 The king went up to the house of the Lord, with all the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem—the priests and the Levites, and all the people, great and small. And he read in their hearing all the words of the Book of the Covenant which had been found in the house of the Lord.

2 Chronicles 34:31,34

31 Then the king stood in his place and made a covenant before the Lord, to follow the Lord, and to keep His commandments and His testimonies and His statutes with all his heart and all his soul, to perform the words of the covenant that were written in this book. All his days they did not depart from following the Lord God of their fathers.

2 Timothy 3:16

16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.

2 Peter 1:16-21

16 For we did not follow cunningly devised fables when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of His majesty…21 for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.

Psalm 119:160

160 The entirety of Your word is truth, And every one of Your righteous judgments endures forever.

Isaiah 40:8

8 The grass withers, the flower fades, But the word of our God stands forever.

John 17:17

17 Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.

John 5:39

Search the Scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life; and they are they which testify of Me.

Luke 24:44

44 Then He said to them, 'These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me.'

1 Thessalonians 5:21

21 Test all things; hold fast what is good.
